James Lavelle_
James Lavelle is a London-based musician and label owner.
James Lavelle arrived in London from Oxford aged 16. Inspired by the culture emanating from US cities, he spent his first years in the city selling hip hop, funk and breaks records. By 18, James had co-founded label Mo’Wax, and quickly released over 150 records, including Endtroducing (1996) - DJ Shadow’s era-defining, sample-rich debut album. James is equally known for his central role in musical outfit Unkle, whose sound has fearlessly ranged from instrumental hip hop to electronic music, and ventured towards rock. Through his work with Unkle, James has collaborated Massive Attack, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Queens of the Stone Age. In a career defined by rule breaking and risk taking, James has explored beyond the traditional reaches of the music industry - often straying into art, fashion and film - recently scoring the soundtrack for Danny Boyle’s new television show Trust.
